PSYCHOTHERAPY
Dr. Varady provides psychotherapy to adolescents and adults. Therapy sessions are
usually scheduled once or twice per week and last 50 minutes.  The duration of
treatment and frequency of sessions varies depending on the nature of a client's
difficulties.
Dr. Varady specializes in working with professionals, performers, and
athletes.

PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION
Bariatric Pre-Surgical Evaluation
Dr. Varady meets with patients at least three times to obtain a complete psychosocial
history and to administer and interpret psychological tests and measures.  You will
complete a questionnaire before attending the first visit (which lasts 60 minutes and
consists of the interview).  The second visit involves completing psychological
measures on the computer or with pencil/paper.  The third (and sometimes fourth)
meeting allows time to discuss the test results and ways the patient can enhance
their success post-surgery.  Typical recommendations may include: pharmacological
interventions (medication), psycho-education, psychotherapy to address potential
post-surgery stumbling blocks, nutritional consultation, close aftercare monitoring,
and/or bariatric surgery support group attendance.

Your report will be completed and faxed to your surgeon within two weeks of your final
pre-operative visit with Dr. Varady. You will also meet with Dr. Varady
post-surgery for a follow-up visit to address any emotional or relationship issues that have
arisen as your body, mind and emotions are reshaped.

Diagnostic Evaluation
Dr. Varady conducts other types of psychological evaluations, particularly diagnostic
evaluations. Please contact her directly for information.

ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT/MENTAL COACHING
As a former collegiate athlete and group fitness instructor, Dr. Varady appreciates the

her pre-doctoral internship she specialized in work with athletes and was a liaison to The
George Washington University athletic department. In addition to her general psychology
work, Dr. Varady specializes in anxiety management, time management, performance
enhancement, visualisation, and team building. If desired,
she will work closely with your coach, nutritionist, athletic trainer, etc, to help you reach
your performance goals while maintaining balance and success in other areas of life.
